Idelia Ferdinand

Idelia is presently assigned to the Education, Research, Information and Communications Technology Department of the Ministry of Education in St Vincent and the Grenadines, in the area integrating Disaster Risk Reduction into the Education Sector.

She graduated from the St Vincent Grammar School in 1996 and began teaching Geography, Social Studies and Art and Craft at the secondary level. She went on to do a Bachelor of Arts in Geography at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica in 1999 and continued teaching upon graduation in 2002.

Idelia holds an MSc in Research in Disaster Management from Coventry University, UK, (2007) and a PhD in Disaster Management in Sustainable Development, Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, (2013).

She served as Deputy Director at the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in SVG, from 2008 to 2010 working with over 30 community groups and other stakeholders to develop contingency plans, conduct training and hazard awareness programmes.

Idelia loves working with young people and has been a member of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cadet Force since 1990. She holds the rank of Major and appointment of Battalion Commander.
