Charmaine is the Director of the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate within the Ministry for Energy and Health.
She graduated as a medical doctor in 1991 and has since pursued her studies with a masters in public health, and followed the European Programme in Epidemiological training in France. She has also specialised in fitness and nutrition and attained her PhD Degree in communicable disease epidemiology in 2006.
Charmaine is a Prince practitioner in project management, a fellow of the UK Royal Society for Public Health and a fellow of the UK Faculty of Public Health.
Sheis a senior lecturer at the University of Malta delivering lectures on public health with special interest in Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases.
She is active in the field of public health having served as secretary, vice president and also as president with the Malta Association of Public Health Medicine for four years.
She acts as a focal point for a number of bodies within the European Commission – including the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and Health Security – and for the World Health Organisation.
