Maria McGill

Maria McGill has 22 years’ experience in specialist palliative care.

Since October 2010, she has been the Chief Executive of the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS). In this post, she has led the organisation in developing its plan and introducing new progressive and innovative policies in key areas. She has also supported the further development of research activities.

Conscious of constraints on funding and the need for CHAS to collaborate and work closely with other agencies, Maria has established strong relationships with local authorities, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, the Scottish Government and palliative care organisations across the UK.

Between 2001 and 2004, Maria undertook the King’s Fund/Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Programme. This two-year programme provided her with the opportunity to explore the organisation, and the delivery, culture and politics of healthcare leadership in a variety of settings throughout the United Kingdom, Brussels and Singapore.

From 2006 until 2011, Maria was Chair of the Council of the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care. In 2007 Maria chaired the working group which produced the document Palliative and End of Life Care: The case for a cohesive approach in Scotland.

Prior to working with CHAS, Maria was the Chief Executive at Highland Hospice for six years. She is currently a Trustee of Together for Short Lives.
