Maria McGill has 26 years experience in specialist palliative care.
Since October 2010, she has been the Chief Executive of the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS). In this post, she has led the organisation in developing its plan – Reaching Every Family in Scotland – and introduced new progressive and innovative policies in key areas. She has also supported the further development of research activities.
In 2016, and following a successful campaign, CHAS secured increased funding of £30 million over five years for CHAS and parity with adult hospices in Scotland.
Maria is conscious of constraints on funding and the need for CHAS to collaborate and work closely with other agencies. So she has established strong relationships with local authorities, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, the Scottish Government and palliative care organisations across the UK.
In 2007 Maria chaired the working group which produced the document Palliative and End of Life Care: The case for a cohesive approach in Scotland.
From 2006 until 2011, Maria was Chair of the Council of the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care. She is currently a Trustee of Together for Short Lives.
