Kai Yuen Wong

Kai is a Specialist Registrar in Plastic Surgery in the Oxford and Wessex Deanery. Alongside his clinical and academic commitments he has continued to pursue his passion for youth engagement, international development and global health.

As an appointed United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Young Envoy in 2001 and Youth Campaigner in 2009, he has advised on global campaigns and represented UNICEF on field visits.

He founded the Cambridge University United Nations Association (CUUNA) in 2006 to recruit over 1,500 members and receive national recognition as one of the most active branches in the country.

Through CUUNA, he successfully developed a platform empowering young people to make positive contributions to the future of the UN with particular emphasis on the Millennium Development Goals.

Since 2012 he has been an Alumni Advisory Board Member of Cambridge University providing a strategic framework to support the University in engaging with its network of over 230,000 alumni.

He leads the Networks Working Group, which specifically advises the University on its global community of over 450 alumni groups.

In response to the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery, he is a founding committee member of the newly formed Global Anaesthesia, Surgery and Obstetric Collaboration. This national society is trainee-led and aims to improve trainee engagement and involvement with global health.
