Aminath Laila

Aminath Laila is working towards a PhD at the Management and Science University, Malaysia, and has over 15 years of experience in the corporate sector.

She is the Chairperson of Maldives International Arbitration Centre (MIAC) of the Editorial Committee of Regional Alliance for Fostering Youth (RAFY). Previously, Aminath has been a Board Secretary of Women on Boards (WOB) in the Maldives.

Laila started her corporate career in 1995 with State Trading Organisation Plc, where she held key managerial positions in:

  • merchandising
  • credit and legal affairs
  • business development
  • and marketing.

She was also the Board Secretary of the company.

As well as her routine work, Aminath conducted awareness sessions on Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) and International Standard Organisation (ISO) standards to the company staff.

In addition, Laila has worked at the Villa College, Maldives, as a visiting lecturer teaching business modules for graduate level students.

In 1997, Laila received a scholarship to pursue her masters degree in Management from Kaplan Asia Pacific Management Institute of Singapore where she graduated with Second Class Honors.

At the University of Bradford, UK she completed her bachelors in Business Administration. She also holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Stamford Commercial College (SCC), Thailand. At SCC, she attained the Certificate for Outstanding Student twice and was top of the class in Accounting.

Laila has several civic interests but her passion to work for women's empowerment began when she wrote her research paper on Women in the Workplace at graduate level. 

Afterwards, she contributed to the local community by spearheading workshops, attending radio programmes and appearing in TV sessions targeted at creating awareness among women and girls alike.

Aminath has received several awards including:

  • the Women Super Achiever Award at the 2017 4th World Women Leadership Congress and Awards
  • the Women Leadership Excellence Award in CSR at the South Asian Partnership and Business Awards in 2016
  • and becoming a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Management by the Royal Institution of Singapore.
