Alex Stephine Muwonge

Alex Stephine Muwonge

Alex Stephine Muwonge is a project manager and administrator. He has eight years experience of working in the non-profit sector with a focus on youth and women empowerment in:

  • information and communication technology (ICT)
  • business skills development
  • social entrepreneurship
  • and leadership.

Passionate about solving the community challenges faced by people in rural communities, Alex has:

  • co-ordinated a team of over 30 staff
  • developed fundraising proposals
  • engaged in budget development and financial management
  • and supervised organisational procurement.

He has also conducted project monitoring and evaluation to access community impact.

Alex has been involved in photography, web design and graphic design projects for social enterprises and startup businesses.

In the past, Alex worked with Kampabits, empowering over 100 youths with employable entrepreneurship skills. Many got employed thereafter while others started their own business.

Alex joined the Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) Uganda in 2012. Since then, he has mentored 50 interns. They, in turn, have reached 8,800 youth and women helping them to develop their entrepreneurship and ICT skills to improve life in rural communities.

He currently runs Design For Charity a social enterprise that helps individuals, businesses and non-profits to develop their brands through digital storytelling.

His entrepreneurship journey has been pivotal in being selected:

  • as a mentor for women with the Cherie Blair Foundation
  • for the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) fellowship
  • the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP)
  • and Switch Africa Green – SEED eco-social entrepreneurship project.
