Vane is the Founding President of the Fly Sister Fly Foundation– a non-profit organisation that works with nomadic communities to champion the rights of girls to education. Because of her work with Fly Sister Fly, she won the Queen’s Young Leaders Award in 2015.
Vane works directly with communities focusing on the education and empowerment of girls and women. This has enabled her to identify with and analyse the challenges facing young people in grassroots communities.
In 2012, Vane was selected to be in the first cohort of change-makers in the Ashoka East Africa Youth Venture programme. She is still involved with Ashoka where she:
• Mentors young change-makers.
• Sits on different decision-making panels to represent young people.
• Works extensively with people from the Global Ashoka network – Ashoka fellows and volunteers.
• Helps interview and select change-makers for Ashoka's programmes.
Committed to continuous life-long learning, Vane is currently studying at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, for an MSc in Sustainable Energy Systems.
