Umra Omar

Umra Omar is the founder of Safari Doctors, a team of medical practitioners that provides free basic medical services to remote areas in Lamu, Kenya – a conflict-laden coastal region of Lamu close to the Somali-Kenyan border.

A graduate of two prestigious American schools, Umra was already working full-time in Washington, DC before she decided to move back to Kenya to help under-served communities access quality healthcare.

“My vision (is) to have quality healthcare model where private services for those that can afford it lends profits and resources to support regular outreach programs to isolated communities  a sustainable and scalable health care model that could be applied beyond Lamu.”

In recognition of her work, Umra was named one of the ten CNN heroes in 2016.

Umra also shared her story of delivering healthcare against all odds!
