Safaath Ahmed won the Queen’s Young Leaders Award in 2016, for her work as a leading women’s rights activist elevating the role of women in the Maldives.
After completing her studies abroad, Safaath returned to the Maldives to lead Women on Boards – a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting gender diversity in the workplace through capacity development workshops, scholarship programmes and advocacy campaigns.
Building on this success, Safaath established Women and Democracy in November 2016, at the end of her Queen’s Young Leaders year.
In September 2016, she was one of 17 young people to be chosen as a United Nations (UN) Young Leader for the Sustainable Development Goals. As such, she is working with Office of the UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth to help get young people working towards the sustainable development goals.
