Lizzie Fane

Lizzie Fane is Founder of Third Year Abroad – an online network that supports UK students who study, work or volunteer abroad during their degree.

Lizzie Fane studied Italian and History of Art at The University of Edinburgh, spending her third year studying History of Art at the Università degli Studi di Firenze and working on Time Out's Best of Florence and Tuscany guidebook.

She is an Academic Associate of the Higher Education Academy, and author of their report ‘Languages and Entrepreneurship: A guide for students’  published in November 2012.

As Communications Adviser for Speak to the Future: the Campaign for Languages, Lizzie also helps to highlight the importance of language learning in the UK.

In August 2014, Lizzie launched a new study abroad Q&A website called TYA Answers ( where students, parents, graduates and staff can ask and answer questions about the year abroad, language degrees and career opportunities. She has also launched a new jobs board, to help year abroad students and graduates find careers which use their unique skills, and to help employers find new recruits with a global mindset.
