Lia Nicholson works for the Government of Antigua and Barbuda as a Project Consultant in the Department of the Environment, and works with government and communities alike to address climate change.
She supports organisations that are working to implement climate change solutions into the community, by helping them to develop research and evidence to secure funding. She also
- helps the government develop environmental law and policies
- communicates science to policymakers
- and represents Antigua and Barbuda in multilateral negotiations on the environment and climate change, such as the Paris Summit.
Previous roles include working at the United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service, where Lia facilitated global civil society participation in the 2014 Climate Summit and helped organise a side event at the UN Headquarters during negotiations for the Sustainable Development Goals.
From 2009 to 2010, Lia worked for the Environmental Awareness Group, where she won funding from the Embassy of Finland to implement a birding ecotoursim and alternative livelihoods project.
Lia studied at Yale University in the United Sates and at Scripps College. She received a Queen's Young Leaders Award in June 2017.
