Kasun Chandana is a disability rights activist in Sri Lanka who supports the hearing-impaired through training, education and access to opportunities.
Deaf from birth, Kasun’s determination and love for life enabled him to overcome discrimination.
In 2008 Kasun Chandana was selected by Duskin Leadership training in Japan which encouraged and helped him develop his self-confidence.
After completing higher education in Sri Lanka and Japan, Kasun devoted himself to improving education for deaf people in Sri Lanka.
As well as working as a graphic designer, he is currently:
- the President and Project Manager of the Sumaga Ruhunu Deaf Organisation.
- working with the Department of Special Education and in schools for the deaf throughout Sri Lanka.
- distributing a sign-language tutorial DVD that he has developed to help deaf children and their teachers.
