Desmond Nji Atanga

Desmond works to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and provide young people with access to sexual and reproductive health information. Between 2010 and 2015 he talked to more than 10,000 school pupils and led a radio programme which used drama to educate them about the issue.

He is the founder of Deserve Cameroon, which is working to increase access to sexual and reproductive health information for young people from 13% to 70% in 10 years. As project manager, he trains school counsellors on ways to approach sexual education in secondary schools.

He was recognised by the Queen's Young Leaders Award in 2017. In August of the same year, he was selected to join 1,000 young innovators at the UNLEASH Innovation Lab in August. He later wrote about his experience for the Leading Change website, describing how this opportunity enabled him to work in a small team and innovate a life-saving technology.

More recently, he won an OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) Scholarship to pursue a master's degree in Health Economics at the University of East Anglia, UK starting September 2018.
